Healthy Schools

We are proud to have achieved the ‘Bronze Healthy Schools’ award. This award recognises the work we do in school to promote healthy minds and bodies.

One way that we do this, is by encouraging healthy lifestyles.  We actively promote the importance of healthy eating through our healthy school meals and healthy snacks at break time. The healthy lunchbox initiative was designed to provide support and guidance for pupils and parents and rewards those with healthy lunchboxes. The Eco School Council lead the healthy lunchbox initiative each year to ensure that packed lunches are healthy, balanced and in line with guidelines provided to parents and carers. Regular physical activity is planned each day for all children this includes: ‘Daily Mile’, lessons in the Outdoor Learning provision and weekly P.E. lessons.

Healthy minds are promoted through daily mindfulness activities during Star Time, Assemblies and PSRHE. These include relaxation methods: breathing exercises, relaxing visualisations and meditations. In addition, all classes have a reflection area with a worry box where children can write their worries that they need help with, if they are not confident enough to tell an adult.  We regularly remind the children they can talk to adults in school if they need support. Our highly trained Pastoral team support individuals and small groups of children in regular interventions.

The school values- Honesty, Trust, Forgiveness, Teamwork, Love and Friendship, are used to support all children in the choices that they make each day. They focus on skills needed to help children to form and sustain healthy relationships. These values underpin the whole school curriculum and Behaviour and Motivation policy. PSRHE lessons teach the children to make healthy choices and how to keep themselves safe.
